What is the purpose of this project?

This project will strengthen the electricity network between Mannington and Shaftesbury, supporting the region’s growing energy needs and enabling the transition to a low-carbon future. It will also improve the reliability and efficiency of your electricity supply.

What work is being carried out?

We are installing underground ducts that will house new 132kV electricity cables. These ducts are being installed in advance of the main cable works to reduce future disruption.

When will the work take place?

Trial hole investigations will take place in Summer 2025. The main works are expected to begin in  Spring 2026, subject to the outcome of these investigations and final design approvals.

Will there be road closures or traffic disruption?

During the trial hole phase, only minimal traffic management will be required. We will provide advance notice of any temporary measures. More detailed traffic management plans for the main works will be shared closer to the time.

    How will you minimise disruption?

We are using trenchless techniques where possible and working closely with local authorities to coordinate works. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, and all works will be carried out during agreed working hours.

How will the environment be protected?

The route passes through areas with Special Environmental Designations (SEDs). We are working with ecology and environmental specialists to ensure all works are delivered responsibly and in line with environmental regulations.

    Who is delivering the work?

The project is being delivered by SSEN working with Aureos Energy Ltd, our appointed contractor.

    How can I stay informed?

Updates will be posted on this page throughout the project. You can also subscribe to receive email notifications or contact our Stakeholder Engagement Team directly.

How is the community benefiting from this project?

We are investing in the community through STEM education, apprenticeships, volunteering, and environmental initiatives. We’re also working with local schools, charities, and wildlife organisations to ensure the project leaves a lasting positive impact.
