Our multi-million-pound upgrade is underway; boosting the power supply to future proof the electricity network for homes and businesses in the Ringwood area.
SSEN, together with delivery partner Aureos, have begun essential works to upgrade the electricity network in the Ringwood area. When complete, this will further improve reliability and resilience for thousands of customers and support greater capacity as local people use more electricity to heat their homes and power their cars.
The programme will involve the installation of new transformers and associated equipment within substations, and the laying of new underground cabling. To facilitate the latter, it's necessary to put in place temporary traffic lights, and in some cases temporary road closures to allow work to proceed quickly and safely - both for the workers delivering it, and the wider public. This traffic management will move in sequence with our working areas to minimise any disruption.
Our Cable Route

The installation of the new underground cabling route will involve two phases. The first phase involves installing the ducts that will contain our new cables. The local council highways authority has awarded us permits to do this.
The second phase of our work will see us return to connect the cables to our electricity network. To do this, we will dig smaller trenches at intervals along the cable route and pull the cables through the ducts to join them together. We will gain additional consent from the council and communicate our plans before the work starts
We’re currently working on Kent Lane, Salisbury Road and Alderholt Road. Here we are installing the electrical ducts in the highway that will house electricity cables in the near future. We will update this page with details of the Ringwood programme as works progress.
Environmental and Road Conditions
Our delivery partner, Aureos, have conducted a number of surveys to ensure that the impact of our work will be kept to a minimum along the full route.
Our team has worked closely with the local council highways authority to ensure that we are working collaboratively with other utility companies, while minimising disruption to local traffic flow wherever possible.
Keeping in touch
We understand these works may cause some disruption and noise, but we will follow industry best practices to ensure our contractors do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience.
We will write in sequence to residents and businesses on each road that is affected, to ensure that residents and businesses are kept up-to-date with the progress of our work and the traffic management measures we will have in place.
